From local history to Harry Houdini, The History Museum at the Castle offers a glimpse into Appleton and the Fox Cities. The stories told here have local and national significance and are sure to amuse, provoke and inspire.

Our Mission

Inside the walls of the History Museum, the past comes alive through the stories, photographs and artifacts of people of the Fox Valley. Our mission is to inspire appreciation for the rich history of the Fox River Valley area communities through the collections, exhibits, and education at the History Museum at the Castle.

History Exhibits

Museum exhibits weave national and local events and periods together to provide both perspective and local relevance. The Museum presents educational programming related to our exhibits and workshops for adults, families and students. In addition to local topics, from time to time the museum brings national traveling exhibits to Appleton.

The Houdini exhibit is a must-see for visitors to the area. AKA Houdini lets you experience some of Harry Houdini’s tricks of the trade through hands-on activities. It is great fun for the whole family! See why the world-renowned magician called Appleton his hometown.
