Incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 1966, the Sierra Mono Museum (SMM) is one of the oldest Native-owned and run American Indian cultural heritage institutions in California. We are located in the small Gold Rush/Sierra foothills town of North Fork – the exact center of the state! – not far Yosemite National Park.
The Museum is home to one of the largest collections of Mono Indian baskets in the state as well as the expansive Tettleton Wildlife Collection featuring dioramas and over 100 freestanding taxidermy animals from the Americas and Asia. We offer tours for classes as well as individuals. We also offer workshops on traditional Mono cultural practices like soap root and acorn mush preparation.
