“Blossoming Seeds of Vision” is a student art showcase that began in 2003. This is the seventh iteration of the show which gives the public a glimpse of the talent of students and teachers from China Institute Gallery’s Discover China Through Art (DCTA) Art Education Program and the School of Chinese Studies’ Adult Studio Program.
Section I: Student Landscape Painting from the DCTA Art Education Program
All works in this section were produced by K-12 students who attended China Institute Gallery’s Discover China Through Art (DCTA) Education Program. Our last exhibition, “Art of the Mountain: Through the Chinese Photographer’s Lens,” introduced China’s sacred mountains, and their importance in Chinese art, culture, history, and life through 63 works by 27 photographers. In the class, students learned and applied the fundamentals of Chinese ink and brush techniques to create their own landscape ink paintings. Through vivid lines, shapes, and shades painted in under 40 minutes, the students in this showcase exhibit their artistry.
Section II: Calligraphy and Painting from the Adult Studio Program
This section features ink art made by students enrolled in China Institute’s School of Chinese Studies Adult Studio Program, which offers classes in both brush painting, and Chinese calligraphy. Brush painting is a genre of classical Chinese ink painting that includes landscapes, bird-and-flower paintings, and depictions of insects and fish. Students in this class are provided training in the fundamentals of traditional painting, focusing on style and technique. Chinese calligraphy refers to the sublime practice of writing and depicting Chinese characters. Students in this class work to master basic brush strokes, which elevate the writing, into a timeless form of art.
Through learning and experimenting with these programs, the participants gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of traditional Chinese art forms. These artworks honor and contribute to exceptional Chinese art, history, and culture.
