“In The Artist’s Studio: Featuring Luz Donahue” gives visitors a glimpse into the process of Felton-based watercolor painter, Luz Donahue. Her life and career started in Costa Rica, where she taught herself to wield the brush as a way to overcome feeling excluded from her overly conservative, religious family. She has continued to hone her skill for leading her art students and admirers through an emotional exploration of abstract image-making that holds the power to reveal insights about the artist’s inner stories. Donahue’s visual style is evocative of early abstraction from Wassily Kandinsky or Hilma af Klint, employing a private vocabulary of color and shape to signify closely held memories or uncovered experiences.
