What is “home?” Is it a house or apartment? A neighborhood? A city? A community gathering place? Is it a private place or a public place? The artists in Interior/Exterior question the way space is formed through memories, gentrification, loss of community spaces, and a creative imagining of the future. Using materials like fabric, craft paper, mortar, bricks, plaster and paper-clay, artists Julie Alpert, Benjamin Armas and Ori Carino, Macon Reed, Kathy Sirico and Kaori Yamashita reconstruct specific places from memory (like a bar or a brownstone) or design new ways of imagining public and private space that may change or challenge our relationships to the places we inhabit. Curated by Ariel Zaccheo.
