New Museum Los Gatos presents a new portfolio of photographic images of trees by artist Jane Olin—titled “Intimate Conversation”—crafted through alchemical darkroom processes. Olin’s striking, dreamlike lens on California’s iconic trees aligns with that of other great historic photographers who have captured this landscape and compels the viewer to confront the urgency of the climate crisis in our time.
“Many of us have a favorite memory of walking in the woods in California, experiencing the majesty of trees,” says NUMU Executive Director Ami Davis. “Jane’s photographs are dreamlike, capturing trees’ personalities and nobility. Viewing Jane’s photographs reminds us all about our intertwined relationship with nature.”
