Founded in 1886, and open year-round, the Suffolk County Historical Society Museum houses ten galleries of exhibit spaces focused on the history, heritage, and people of Suffolk County, and a Special Library of Archives available for history and genealogical research. With exhibits that illustrate history through the many varied lenses and cultures of our people, we identify and acknowledge hundreds of historically significant moments that shaped who we are, today, and the artifacts associated with those moments.

Our family-friendly museum offers both permanent “core” exhibits and rotating galleries, enabling us to tell new stories each year while continuing to honor our traditional core history elements. Geared for audiences of all ages, we encourage a trip for the whole family.

In addition, we offer a full calendar of program events including history lectures, local history author talks, genealogy workshops, History Through Music concert events, panel discussions, and more!
