From artists searching for inspiration, to science and history fans, to children looking for an adventure, there is something for everyone at The Corning Museum of Glass, located in Finger Lakes Wine Country of upstate NY (halfway between NYC and Niagara Falls).
The world’s largest glass museum offers the opportunity to explore 3,500 years of glassmaking history in the collection galleries and the best of the last 25 years in glass in the breathtaking Contemporary Art + Design Wing. Be inspired by live glassblowing demonstrations daily in the 500-seat Amphitheater Hot Shop: see master glassmakers take glowing gobs of molten glass on the end of a pipe and skillfully shape them into vases, bowls, or sculptures. A narrator talks through the process, and cameras inside the 2300°F furnace ensure you don’t miss a single moment. Experience the wonder of glassmaking for yourself by reserving a Make Your Own Glass project, ranging from blown ornaments and pumpkins to fusing, sandblasting, and flameworking beads and pendants. Make Your Own Glass offers projects for all ages of artists.
Open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. From Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, the Museum is open until 8:00 p.m. Closed only four days a year: January 1, Thanksgiving Day, December 24, December 25.
Kids and teens 17 and under enjoy free admission every day. Admission tickets are good for two days, so you can enjoy the depth and breadth of the glass experience.
