Cortland County Historical Society was founded in 1925 and we have been sharing the stories of Cortland County ever since! CCHS is home to both the Suggett House Museum and the Kellogg Memorial Research Center. The museum was once the home of James and Jane Suggett and their family and is an Italianate home which was built in 1882. The Suggett House contains a gallery of vignettes which highlight the history of Cortland County through the use of objects in our extensive collection. With changing exhibits, you’ll want to stop back often to see what’s new.

In 2022, we introduced the Then & Now Children’s Room, a hands-on history room within the Suggett House that is just for kids. Antiques and reproductions allow children to step back in time, and our child sized store and log cabin are full of interesting things to explore.

The Kellogg Memorial Research Center is home to our archival research materials for local history and genealogical research. We are happy to help you discover your roots in Cortland County and to bring your family history to life with our primary and secondary resources. You never know what you might find, and that’s the thrill of genealogical research!
