You Never Know What Duxbury’s History is Going to Do Next…

The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society is a non-profit organization seeking to foster a better understanding of the heritage and rural environment of Duxbury, Massachusetts.

Visitors can explore King Caesar House with a guide-led experience through the home of Ezra Weston II (“King Caesar”), Duxbury’s largest shipbuilder, furnished with antiques and maritime treasures exemplifying Duxbury’s shipbuilding era. Introductory video is available. Stroll the grounds with a water view, including the remnants of King Caesar’s wharf, now called Bumpus Park. Contemplate tumultuous social change and Civil War history at the newly re-imagined Bradford House, an exhibition focused on the extraordinary lives of the Bradford sisters. The new exhibition, Four Bradford Daughters: Lives Well Lived is a self-touring, gallery style installation in the family home. Visitors to Duxbury can also stroll through the first floor of DRHS Headquarters at the Nathaniel Winsor, Jr. House, research local history at the Drew Archival Library, or picnic on the more than 150 acres of land held in conservation by the DRHS. There is much to do in Duxbury and the DRHS is at the heart of this vibrant community.

The Nathaniel Winsor, Jr. House (1807) and the Drew Archival Library (1909) are open year round during regular office hours and are available free of charge.

The King Caesar House (1809) and Bradford House (1808) museums enjoy regular admission season during the summer and through select fall weekends.
