The Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science, one of southern Indiana’s leading cultural institutions, is a general museum maintaining a permanent collection of more than 30,000 objects including fine and decorative arts with an emphasis on the 16th – 21st centuries. Of key importance are collections of late 19th – early 20th century Indiana landscapes and portraiture; contemporary American still life paintings; and fine art and crafts purchased from over six decades of the Museum’s prestigious annual juried competitions of Midwestern art.
The Museum offers exhibitions and educational programming to complement both permanent collection galleries and 16 temporary exhibitions annually. Panoramic science films and traditional planetarium programs exploring the night sky are offered in the Koch Immersive Theater. The Museum provides multiple opportunities to experience various facets of history including galleries devoted to early river, rail, and aviation travel in the city; Abraham Lincoln’s early years in southern Indiana; mid-19th through early 20th vignettes of home and business settings; and Evansville’s significant role on the home front during World War II.
