Home to three generations of Lincolns, Hildene was built by presidential son, Robert Lincoln, in 1905, during his tenure as president of the world’s largest manufacturing company in the world at the time, the Pullman Palace Car Co. Today’s guests experience the 412 acre estate’s Welcome Center and The Museum Store; historic home; formal, learning and production gardens; “The American Ideal” Lincoln exhibit including one of President Lincoln’s iconic stovepipe hats; 1903 Pullman railcar Sunbeam including the “Many Voices” exhibit, now a site on the Vermont African American Heritage Trail; Hildene Farm at the goat dairy & creamery, and in the dene; pollinator and bobolink sanctuaries; 600’ wetland floating boardwalk; and 12 miles of four-season trails. At Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, experience the cultural heritage, environmental stewardship, and civic discourse that the organization’s mission Values into Action supports.
