Built in 1855 as City Hall, Hudson Hall is New York State’s oldest surviving theater—a storied landmark whose magnificent auditorium once hosted Ralph Waldo Emerson, Susan B. Anthony, Theodore Roosevelt, and Frederic Edwin Church. After decades of abandonment, the building was rescued and restored by local citizens, reopening its 385-seat theater in 2017.

Today, Hudson Hall is a cultural destination offering a year round program of performance, film, visual art, and community programming. The Hudson Jazz Festival draws legendary and emerging performers to a citywide celebration; its Handel on the Hudson series has earned multiple NYTimes Critics’ Picks for its baroque opera productions.

Hudson Hall’s galleries present exhibitions by international, regional, and local contemporary artists. Past exhibitions include Wolfgang Tillmans, Christian Marclay, Michael Lindsay Hogg, Sita Gómez, and Corinne May Botz.
