The Museum of the American Indian uplifts, supports, and makes visible the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas by offering authentic educational programs and cultural resources to Marin and the greater Bay Area.

For over 50 years, the Museum has served the Bay Area community as an educational and cultural center dedicated to supporting the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. The Museum was founded in 1967 when an excavation of Miwok Park unearthed masses of artifacts related to the Coast Miwok people. The Novato High School Archaeology Club petitioned the City of Novato to preserve the area, and the Marin Museum Society, Inc. was formed. The Museum sees thousands of annual visitors, including between 4,000 – 5,000 school-age children, and holds a signature annual event, the Marin Trade Feast.
