The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) was founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association to safeguard newspapers chronicling a young Oklahoma Territory. 131 years later, the extensive collections have grown to include artifacts, photographs, documents, oral histories, audio, and film. With over 20 museums and historic sites across the state, the OHS brings Oklahoma’s diverse and adventurous history to life through exhibits, programs, and publications, ensuring future generations can connect with the state’s rich heritage.

Our headquarters, the Oklahoma History Center, is an eighteen-acre, 215,000-square-foot Smithsonian affiliated learning center across from the Oklahoma State Capitol. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the center features five galleries, a research center, and exhibits exploring Oklahoma’s Native cultures, pioneers, aviation, commerce, and more. Visitors will enjoy an immersive experience of the state’s rich and complex heritage.
