Root Division is a San Francisco–based non-collecting contemporary art space and nonprofit museum that connects the public with emerging and mid-career artists through exhibitions, education, and community engagement. Founded in 2002, Root Division provides affordable studios for over 30 artists, presents ten exhibitions annually, and offers free art classes for more than 1,000 youth in under-resourced schools. As a non-collecting institution, Root Division focuses on the presentation and interpretation of contemporary art rather than maintaining a permanent collection. Through exhibitions, artist talks, and accessible public programs, Root Division fosters cultural dialogue, supports diverse artistic voices, and strengthens the Bay Area’s creative ecosystem.
