The Muse is Kenora’s cultural hub, bringing history and art together on our cultural campus in downtown Kenora. It encompasses the Lake of the Woods Museum, a multi-award-winning institution known as one of Canada’s best small museums, and the Douglas Family Art Centre, the community’s first public art gallery.

Since 1964, the Lake of the Woods Museum has preserved the region’s rich history through more than 25,000 artifacts and 100,00 photographs. Its dynamic exhibits highlight Indigenous and settler heritage, local industries, and natural history, making the past come alive.

Opened in 2019, the Douglas Family Art Centre was made possible by the generous donation of the complete Lake of the Woods Walter J. Phillips collection. Today, it showcases local, Indigenous, and contemporary art while offering hands-on workshops for all ages.

Together, these institutions create a vibrant space for learning, creativity, and community connection, ensuring Kenora’s culture continues to thrive.
