Bakersfield was the center of a revolution in Country Western Music in the 1950’s and 60’s with popular artists Red Simpson, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. The Bakersfield Sound exhibit mixes costumes, musical instruments, period photographs and architectural artifacts to take visitors on a honkytonk time trip. More than 100 artists are featured along with original signage and priceless instruments.
The Kern County Museum is an 85-year-old jewel box set on 16 tree lined acres and features 70 different historic structures.
