“Black–Still” is a multi-sensory installation by the interdisciplinary practice of enFOLD Collective. It is the second iteration of the Materials & Applications x Craft Contemporary program, a multi-year partnership that explores craft through art and architecture.

Organized by Materials & Applications and presented in Craft Contemporary’s outdoor courtyard, the project’s design and its complementing programs explore narratives of wellness, access, and cultural expression with specific attention to marginalized communities. Rendered in simple, familiar materials, the project’s reverential volume is responsive to various obstacles on, above, and beneath the ground, while its dark finish evokes the tar running underground and celebrates Black in response to traditional and modernist notions in architecture predicated on whiteness.
