Collective Arising: The Insistence of Black Bay Area Artists
On view through November 27, 2022

“Collective Arising” presents contemporary Black artists in the San Francisco Bay Area who have participated in interdisciplinary collectives that provide a space of belonging and empowerment while amplifying the voices and work of Black artists and encouraging artistic and professional growth. Artist collectives historically have used their creativity to acknowledge and combat racial discrimination in the fight for civil rights. Black artist collectives remain relevant today as collective members address white supremacist ideology, confront state-sanctioned violence, and navigate and challenge institutional anti-Black racism.
