Gail Norfleet’s work on layers of transparent Lucite can be viewed as a natural progression after years spent as a printmaker. When creating her early monoprints, she would often use clear plastic plates through which she could see the images before transferring them onto paper with a printing press. She was always intrigued by the ghost images left behind on the plexiglass, and began experimenting with multiple mediums on the transparent surface. Today, she uses multiple plexiglass panels pressed together and works on all sides to create her signature style of multi-dimensional artwork that includes painting, drawing, photography, and collage. Her current solo exhibition titled “Gail Norfleet: connecting faraway places” highlights pieces from her career as a printmaker, and includes many recent works created from years of travel to Northern New Mexico and a recent trip to Morocco.
