Hunt Slonem: Both Sides of the Brush
On view through January 5, 2020
Customs House Museum & Cultural Center
Clarksville, Tennessee
www.customshousemuseum.org

An exhibition of sixteen paintings by international artist Hunt Slonem featuring his iconic bunnies and birds, the show includes paintings from the museum collection, the Tennessee State Museum collection, and new pieces from the artist’s studio in New York.

Inspired by nature and his 60 pet birds, Slonem is renowned for his distinct neo-expressionist style. He draws great inspiration from history, forging palpable connections to the past through his art. His popular portraits of Abraham Lincoln reframe the historic figure as a pop-art icon. He uses an abstract platform for his traditional subject matter, developed with gestured brushwork and bold Warholesque repetitive compositions.
