“In Nature’s Grasp,” co-curated by Freeman and artist Michael Abrams, considers the idea of the sublime in nature that was articulated by the Romantic philosopher Edmund Burke more than 250 years ago. Burke saw nature as capable of generating the strongest sensations in its beholders: astonishment, awe, terror, and a sense of danger.

Eleven artists working in a variety of media explore Burke’s concept by delving into humanity’s relationship with the natural world, facing unsettling darkness as well as beauty. The artists include Jeffrey Blondes, Shawn Dulaney, Richard Fishman, Renée Greenlee, Rick Harlow, Jai Hart, Marcy Hermansader, Athena LaTocha, Ron Milewicz, Eileen Murphy, and Lily Prince.
