Longhua Xu developed a passion for art in childhood, encouraged by his brother. Selected by the Chinese National Arts and Crafts Company in 1971, he showcased his work nationally from 1972, including at the Shanghai Art Museum. In 1989, he immigrated to the U.S. under the “Extraordinary Ability” program for more artistic opportunities. Xu has since created numerous public artworks using various mediums, including stone carving, relief sculpture, and painting.
